obituary of Brother Stephen Morgan Jr.
copied from Flat Creek Baptist Church Minutes..published by Norma Morgan
original spelling unchanged
who departed this life July 23rd 1896. Born Nov. 1st 1809 age eighty six
years eight months and 22 days professed faith in Christ the ninth year
of his age and joined the church at FLAT CREEK in the 22 year of his age
In the year 1832 and lived a faithful and devoted member of the same
until his death making him a member of the church sixty four years. He was
ordained a deacon of the church June the third 1837 and served the church
fifty nine years. He was married to Jane Buckner in the 22 year of age
and there was born unto them ten children. He lived with her thirty six
years and she died in full triumph of a liveing faith leaving him and the
children to morn her departure. In 1867 January 1st he was married to
Rachael Miles and lived with her thirty years a more devoted husbon and
a loving father to children never lived. He lived religion every day
as a living epistle and read and known of all around him. He talked it
by the wayside at home at the church at his neighbors house. We have
oftimes seen him shout and praise God in church in his home and in the
field when about the dailey avocation of life in all his relation with the church
there was never naught brought against him in over 50 years. He never missed
a church meeting, I have often heard him say the grate success of a flourishing
church was the faithful attendence of the church members at the church meetings.
Oh how he will be missed at old Flat Creek but he has gone to
reap the reward that remains for the people of God. He leaves a dear wife and
three children and a large number of grandchildren and friends to mourn his
departure aned we have no doubt that their loss is his eternal
gain.
Respectfull submitted A. Lochart, W.S.Roberts, J.C. McElroy
