Bibles and Genealogy and Such

This is a fairly old family bible and it is falling apart...I wish I knew how to preserve it from

further decay, It has my grandparents marriage certificate in it. I think they bought it very early in their marriage..December 1, 1889..Sallie died in December of 1917 amd William in December of 1918.

There were extensive family records in this bible..For years it lay in the basement of my Uncle Roy's home in Asheville. My sister asked him if she could have it and he gave it to her and she took it to Florida where it got even more dry rot because she had it laid on a lectern in the salty Florida air near the Ocean.

I thought it might be a rare and unique bible because it was a parallel bible with the King James of 1611 translation and the revised translation of 1881 whatever that is. It has the Apocrypha books too..but they are listed separately from the regular Old Testament.. It probably is worth little because it is falling apart...But it has very much sentimental family value..

Sallies family (Rogers) claimed to be descended from John Rogers who was one of the early translaters of the bible...

John Rogers went on to print the second complete English Bible in 1537. It was, however, the first English Bible translated from the original Biblical languages of Hebrew & Greek. He printed it under the pseudonym "Thomas Matthew", (an assumed name that had actually been used by Tyndale at one time) as a considerable part of this Bible was the translation of Tyndale, whose writings had been condemned by the English authorities. It is a composite made up of Tyndale's Pentateuch and New Testament (1534-1535 edition) and Coverdale's Bible and some of Roger's own translation of the text. It remains known most commonly as the Matthew-Tyndale Bible. It went through a nearly identical second-edition printing in 1549.
